Norwegian Cruise Line #FoodieChats Event

Unfortunately I’m not actually on a Norwegian cruise at the moment. Waaaaaa! Fortunately I got to stuff my face with all the food that will be  served on the Norwegian Breakaway ship that will take its maiden voyage in April of 2013. Woooooo!

Thanks to Steve Green, host of the weekly live Twitter show #FoodieChats, I was invited with some fellow Miami foodies and social media peeps  to Norwegian Cruise Line’s test kitchen at their corporate offices to test out (read: devour) some amazing dishes that are featured on Norwegian ships.  Three things: Oh-Em-Gee!

We were greeted with wine and a specialty cocktail that will be served up on the ship and then the food began. And kept going. And kept going. And oh wait, I think we’re done. Oh, nope, here come the steaks. And oh yeah, an entire table of desserts. Ok now we’re done. Um, wheelchair please?

The food was presented to us by the Director of Culinary Development Lars Kristiansen, Corporate Executive Chef Colin Hudson, and Corporate Executive Pastry Chef Eric Bilodeau. Our gracious hosts from Norwegian, Marisa Scime and Kristine McGlinchey,  made sure we had enough to drink, eat, and overall were just great company. And great company it truly was. All the guests were just lovely people and we all bonded over our love for food in between our “ooooooohs” and “aaaaahhhs”.

Each week #FoodieChats has a theme and this week was sponsored by Norwegian so obviously it centered around vacation. While we chatted, tweeted, and sweat (hey, we were in a hot kitchen) we tasted about 9 courses of food. Yes, 9 courses.  Suffice it to say I still haven’t eaten today.

The food was so well done and everything tasted amazing. My favorite dish was the pan seared sea bass with a lobster veloute’, but the tender grilled rib eye steak was also seasoned perfectly. In all honesty I was thoroughly impressed that I was eating “cruise food” which at best is usually mediocre. The dishes resembled something you would find at an upscale restaurant.

If you’re a food lover and on Twitter make sure to tune in at 8pm EST every Monday for #FoodieChats and meet and interact with lots of foodies from around the world! And if you’re a cruise and food lover make you go on this ship!!! It looks unreal! We all  left with some nifty Norwegian hipster sunglasses, an extremely full tummy, and a slap happy grin on our faces! Big thanks to Steve and Norwegian Cruise Line  for an unforgettable evening! 🙂

Below are the pictures of each dish we tried! Enjoy!

Amuse bouche of pineapple and jalapeno salsa with a vodka and mango pearl.

Tuna crudo with an avocado/tomato salsa and mustard lime dressing

Salmon tartare

Parmensan coated fried calamari with a spicy chili sauce

Lump crab cake with grilled portobello mushroom and a remoulade sauce

Pan seared seabass with a mango and pineapple salsa, plantain chips, and a lobster veloute’

Linguine with a lobster ragout and snow peas and lobster tails! Ahhhh

Parmesan truffle oil french fries

Grilled rib eye. Holy moly!

Roasted rainbow carrots and new potatoes with rosemary

The dessert table! Truffles, pecan brittle, cheesecake lollipops, chocolate covered strawberries, dark chocolate “bark”

Chocolate covered strawberries with violet candy bits

The group! So much fun!

Bon Voyage…I wish!

Lovely roundup & photos of good times there. NCL was our first cruise and it was our honeymoon, so fond memories. Nice to meet in person after tweeting with them! It was amazing to find our paths have crossed without us knowing, ha! See you on twitter.
